Default PvE vs PvP

Hey guys! Iv'e been playing for a few days now but I'm still confused about something. Starting a PvP char at level 20 with the 'best' gear can be done as soon as you start. If so, what's the point of PvE, besides having to take time grinding to level 20? I assumed:

*With content patches, going to new places and gaining BETTER armor than the PVP set gear offered.
*Getting into a guild.
*Getting better skills? (see below)

From what I saw, premade template characters have good skills already. Why play PvE to get more skills when you have a competant build already, good for PvP matches.

Please try to fill me in on PvE vs PvP modes. It's still confusing.

If you want to be uber you have to complain about grind and unlock every single skill.

But if you just want to play, the ready-made characters are a good start. With the new unlock through PvP-System you don't need to PvE any more.

But you miss a main part of the game. And during PvE you can get quite a good training (not on all aspects of PvP, but on some) and you can very easily test skills, builds, etc.

But you never have to play PvE if you don't want to.

And now are coming a flame war saying that you have to grind 100,000+ millions of hours to unlock every single skill, rune and weapon upgrade to be competetive.

Honestly if you've found everything that you want so far by just starting a template char for pvp then no you don't ever need to play pve.

However the only way to get elite skills, unlock runes, unlock better weapons and weapon upgrades is to play through the pve side. Also a good reason to play through the pve part is to get to know how to use your skills and find the build that best suits you but if you want to do that through pvp then that works too. But for people who just want to play pvp the pve is there just to unlock things to use for pvp.

PvP equipment sucks. To make a good PvP char you must PvE, unlock runes, skills, better equipment. Trust me, make a good PvE char, you will thank yourself.

Well to sum it up:

- In PvE getting to level 20 is not a grind at all, in fact it's very easy to do.

- PvP characters allow you to play about with different skill builds instantly. PvE allows you to travel the world AND STILL access all the features of PvP.

- PvP characters can only access PvP Arenas... no where else.

- PvE characters can go anywhere, to any place, town, city, arenas, you name it.

- Currently you need to use PvE to collect locked skills to use in PvP. However this is changing soon due to all the whining.

- PvP characters start at max level, with best armor... but not the best looking armor. PvE people can collect special armor which is very expensive. But has the same armor rating as PvP ones.

- PvE gives you more freedom.

Really the way I see it, since any RPG character can access ALL the features of PvP, there really no reason I see why people don't like PvE.

Guess some want everything handed over to them on a plate.

thanks firebat you basically answered everything.. and everyone else, thank you.

the 'grind' in gw is very simple, i noticed that. by grind i meant ' killing monsters ' heh. its not a hassle at all.

as for pvp chars, ive only tried arena, the first one. and its just one little area, and then ui press a button and fight pvp. how can someone do that for a long time w/o getting bored? pve is fun i was just curious what the 2 modes had in common and what things were different.

thank you.

A question I still don't know the answer to. How anyone can stand doing PvP non-stop I'd like to know. At least a PvE character gives you the freedom to do anything you want.

How many people are playing Counterstrike, Battlefield, Medal Of Honor, UT, Quake,...?

They do PvP all the time and like it. And in GW PvP is even more interesting because you get different builds.

But if you are not into PvP then, of course, it gets boring very fast.

Well hopefully not many since there are newer better versions of ALL those games

Still they are more dynamic and fast paced PvP and are pure PvP games... guild wars PvP is slow and repetive in my eyes... unless you PvP with a good guild of people you can get along with.

The reason for PvE? Some people like to role-play in RPGs .

I never wanted to compare GW with these PvP games. I just wanted to bring an example of games that are PvP only - to provide an evidence that PvP can be funny.

I like PvP in GW, allthough it is a pitty that you hardly find decent PuG. You get maybe one good group out of ten (or maybe the ratio is even worse).

With "good" I don't mean "can hold HoH for a few hundred weeks straight" but are able to "survive a few rounds". Most PuG I joined failed in the first PvP round

But Guildfights are much more funny IMHO

I like both but find myself doing more PvP now seeing as how AN is doing its best to destroy PvE.
